Saina Nehwal Wants Fresh Start And Thought Of Quitting
Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal recently regained her leading spot in the women’s singles Badminton World Federation, and earlier the Olympic bronze medalist
had became the first Indian to reach the finals of the World Badminton Championships, where she bagged a silver. Despite losing at the latest Japan Open, Saina says she is putting her defeat behind and is geared up to make a clean and fresh start. Excerpts from a conversation with Saina when she was in Delhi recently:
On Present Form
“I look at the positive things in life. I had been struggling for five years and even thought of quitting. I was not getting the right kind of training. But since September last year, things started to fall in place and the results are showing. My performances have been consistent. I have beaten all the Chinese players. I just hope to stay injury free,” she says.
Cricket Expanded Since It Produced Outcomes
She is pleased that people are following badminton these days as well as informed us why cricket has always overshadowed every other sport in India. “Cricket has continuously produced results. As a player, if you win a tournament today and then don’t achieve anything for the next four years, people would obviously not remember you. It feels so nice when people come up to me and say, ‘We watched your match’ or ‘I want to play badminton’. We need lots of coaches, academies and better infrastructure to inspire people to pursue the game,” she said.
I Rarely Get Into The Kitchen Said Saina Nehwal
She rarely comes to Delhi so when she will do, it really is for a short vacation. “I love to practice at the Siri Fort Sports Complex and I love Delhi food,” she said. Being a disciplined sportsperson, Saina makes sure that she has a balanced diet that comprises cereals, juices, brown breads, egg whites and dry fruits. However, her mother Usha, who had accompanied her to Delhi, says, “She loves aloo ke paranthe very much. She has always been a well behaved kid who would be content eating maa ke haath ka bana kadi chawal ya chole chawal. Having lived in the south, our family has also developed a taste for upma and idli.” When we asked Saina if she can cook, she said, “I rarely enter the kitchen. Par main chai bana leti hoon.”
Saina Nehwal Said: “No To Acting Or Dancing”
Saina says that she chooses her endorsements with great care and has been showing you a bit of her acting abilities at the same time in the commercials. Her Dubsmash video, where she plays Babu Bhaiya from Hera Pheri, had also gone viral. We consult her if she is interested in picking up acting. “Arrey nahi, woh (Dubsmash videos) toh ek flow mein ho gaya tha. Occasionally, I watch films and serials just to take my mind off the game. ” However, Saina would like a biopic created on her. “Deepika Padukone can play badminton and she will need to play me.” Saina also confirmed that she was not long ago implemented by Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded, but turned down the offer because of her determination to the sport.
Saina Nehwal Prepared To Make A Clean And Fresh Start
Making reference to her recent loss in the Japan Open, she says, “It just wasn’t my day and I ended up losing to Minatsu Mitani. She was playing in her own country facing her home audience. Moreover, given that the Rio Olympics are simply 1 year away, all four players from Japan were playing with the aim of securing their spots. I will accomplish my best in coming tournaments. I am taking an escape for three-four days and will then resume training in Bangalore. I have left the tournament behind and am all set to create a clean start. I will be preparing for the upcoming tournaments in Denmark. France, China, Hong Kong, India GP and the India Super Series.”
